Things From This Week.

Oddly enough, I haven't been up to par on my internetting this week, so I have "real life" things instead of videos of cats doing things. Weird.

I spent some time with my handsome nephew. He came over in a striped onesie and I found this ASU onesie that I bought him in his diaper bag, so he obviously had to be changed. When my little sister saw him, she asked me why I bought him an ASU onesie. And I just stared at her. Where was she the last four years while I attended ASU? And where was she when I graduated this past May and our family threw me a big party? Fourteen year olds, man.

Spent time with my brosef. He actually got a job this week! And to quote him, "I'm peoples now."

I ate some delicious ramen. My mom had a meeting in Tempe so we met her for dinner and she actually ate ramen - I was surprised. My mom does not try new things. And she didn't even complain. It was delicious - I was disappointed with my egg. When I make my own ramen, I don't just throw a hard boiled egg in it.

While waiting for my brother at his interview, I bought a piggie bank and I took it home to decorate. Definitely not done and I'm not the best artist, but I think it accurately depicts what I'm saving for.

Running a 5K...

Please excuse my beauty and yes, that is a frown.

I used to run cross country in high school - well, I wanted to run cross country in high school and I trained all summer long before abruptly quitting once I realized - I couldn't really run that long. It wasn't my asthma that stopped me, but rather, my sheer laziness.

I want to get back in shape because my body in high school was ridiculous. But, gym memberships are too expensive and running is pretty much free. I live right next to the canal, so I can just go run there in the evening.

In a weird attempt to motivate myself, I signed up to run a 5K. So, on December 9th, I'll be running my first 5K. So far, I've heard that I'm crazy, but I'm really looking forward to it and it's great to have a goal.

Reunited.

My handsome nephew came home yesterday after being away for two weeks. We got to spend some quality time together while his momma got a haircut.

Then, I went to sleep at 6 pm and slept for 10 glorious hours. So, I'm feeling great today.

Must See TV.

1) Dinosaurs

It's finally on Netflix Instant and I couldn't be happier. I loved this show when I was younger (It was on from 1991-1994), but there are so many jokes that I can finally understand now.
Where to Watch: Netflix Instant
Best Episode(s): What Sexual Harris Meant - Episode #18 (The title says it all) or I Never Ate My Father - Episode #8 (Complete with a faux-Bob Dylan dinosaur)

2) The IT Crowd

Where to Watch: Netflix Instant - 4 seasons are up.
Best Episode(s): Moss and the German - Episode #8. Cannibalism, Soviet Russia, and a cellist. What could be better?

3) Downton Abbey

If you haven't heard about this show yet, where have you been? At first, I poo-pooed at the idea - what could be interesting about this? But, it's riveting television.
Where to Watch: First season is up on Netflix Instant and Season 2 is free on Amazon Prime.
Best Episode(s): I honestly couldn't choose.

4) Peep Show

At first, I couldn't stand it. The shaky camera made me nauseous, but if you power through the first couple of episodes, you will see what a great show this is.
Where to Watch: Netflix Instant
Best Episode(s): Quantocking - Episode #18. And Mark Makes a Friend - Episode #4.

5) The West Wing

Alright, I admit it - I am really late on this one, but now that I've found it, I can't stop watching it. Rob Lowe is awesome in everything. And I love Bradley Whitford.

Where to Watch: Free with Amazon Prime.
Best Episode(s): So far, the first two episodes of season 2.

Things From This Week.

Will I ever get sick of this song? I'm beginning to think no.

This article explains my feelings about being told to smile as a woman.

Proof that I'm right - I always say that when a guy texts me a :-), he's older than 25.

A West Wing Reunion. I love it, even though I still haven't finished season 1. Woops.

Pumpkin Spice VIA.

Uploaded from the Photobucket iPhone App

Fall is my favorite time of year, even though I live in Arizona and I don't get to see the leaves change colors. But, I do get to enjoy all things pumpkin. Pumpkin coffee, pumpkin cream cheese, pumpkin cider, pumpkin bagels. I love it all.

Starbucks' Pumpkin Spice lattes are my favorite, but I can only get a few because they're so expensive. This year, Starbucks introduced Pumpkin Spice VIA - instant coffee. It recommends you use hot milk, but hot water works just fine. And, it's a lot cheaper than the Pumpkin Spice latte.

Don't get me wrong, I'll still be splurging on a few Pumpkin Spice lattes this fall, but for a cheap, pumpkin fix, I love the VIA.

Pinterest to Real Life.

I've had Pinterest for a while, but this was the first weekend I really fell into that blackhole.

From Pinterest:

I like it - I just wish I liked the front of the shirt I used more.

weekend review.

This was a rare weekend - I was off for three days. And I fell into a Pinterest blackhole and I don't know if I'm ever coming out.

Basically, I love all things pumpkin. I made a skull shirt. And, I dyed my hair dark again and put it in a sock bun.

things from this week.

I agree with Kevin Drum - having an introvert in the White House can be a good thing. Good to know the President, like me, isn't a big fan of people.

Well, this is a bummer. And it takes all the fun out of drinking red wine.

Finally watched the pilot of The Mindy Project on Hulu instead of sleeping - I highly recommend it!

The scariest tumblr I've ever seen.

The Alleged Rise of the Woman-Child: A Response was the best article I've read all week. I suggest you read it too.

There goes my childhood. Another great movie ruined by CGI.

Finally, beer & wine in the Magic Kingdom. I was just in Disney World last year and I drank malt liquor for breakfast before going to the park. I kept it classy.

Selling Books.

Like most 20-somethings, I have moved around. A lot. And for some reason, I like to move in the summer when it's 100+ degrees. And I have more books than any one person my age should have.

Books are heavy. They take up way too much space. And, why do I need my calculus book from 5 years ago? I don't.

Back when I was in college (....just a few months ago), I would always sell my textbooks. Now, I wouldn't get a lot back, but at the end of the day - it's extra cash.

I use http://bookscouter.com/. You type in the ISBN and it gives you a lot of different options and quotes.

Then, I usually make an Excel sheet to keep track of where I should send my books.

And then I color-code so I know which books are going where. As you can see, not all of my books are re-sellable. And, I'm really not getting that much back, but extra money is extra money and I won't have to take these books with me when I move.

Another great thing is that Amazon will let you trade in books for Amazon gift-cards - which you can keep on your account and use whenever you want.

I'm making an extra $132.10 by selling my books.
Better than nothing.

All the books in my car ready to be shipped off.

Weekend.

Saving money for my upcoming trip has turned me into a homebody.

My brother came home Saturday night looking like this:

Be sure to follow me on Instagram to see pictures of my nephew and my brother looking ridiculous.

things from this week.

One of my favorite features of blogs is the link round-up, so I figure I might as well give it a shot.

There is a store in the works to sell these - I don't know whether to be amused or mortified.

Here is a recipe for your own Butterbeer and Pumpkin Juice. I definitely plan on trying this.

A great post about football and the inner dialogue we have while watching it. I can say that I feel the same way, but I know when the NFL starts back up, I'll be watching my Dolphins lose...erhm, I meant play.

President Obama and his daughters watching FLOTUS give an amazing speech.

Some of the best advice for undergraduates.

DNC.

Michelle Obama KILLED it at the first night of the Democratic National Convention.

If you haven't seen this speech, you need to take the time and watch it

And then, there was President Bill Clinton. I know people talk about how much voters hate getting into policy, but Clinton is great at distilling those policies down and he does it in such a great way. His charisma made that speech.
"It takes some brass to attack a guy for doing what you did."

I highly suggest watching Bill's speech. Reading it does not have the same effect. He added so many remarks to his prepared statements that it's worth the 50 minutes to watch his full speech.

Sandra Fluke did a great job as well. And Elizabeth Warren, the future Massachusetts Senator, was phenomenal. I get warm fuzzy feelings when I see women up there - fighting the good fight.

I'm looking forward to President Obama and Vice President Joe Biden tonight.
And, I'm really glad Biden made it during his hitch-hiking journey to Charlotte

Recently Read...

I'm a little late to the game, but I've finally finished Gabby: A Story of Courage and Hope

Well, finally finished is a bit of a weird way of saying - I'm dumbfounded it took me so long to finally pick up and read. But once I picked it up, I couldn't put it down. It was a fast read, which is a nice break from my usual, incredibly dense non-fiction books.

Mark Kelly, Gabrielle Giffords, Ron Barber & his wife, Nancy in June 2012

I had the privilege of meeting Gabby and Mark when I was in Tucson this summer doing GOTV (Get Out the Vote) for Ron Barber's campaign for Gabby's old seat.

She's one of my heroes.

Am I really making an introductory post?

I'm Kaileigh.
I am 22 years old. And I'm currently living on my mom's couch. For financial reasons, of course.
I don't like cats - I'm allergic.
And, I have no sense of style.
I'm not Mormon.
And I definitely don't have kids.
I can't really cook.

So I really have no idea why I'm starting a blog.
It's not that I have a ton of time on my hands, but I really enjoy looking like ..Photobucket

I guess we'll see what happens?
